For Black Queens
Title: For Black Queens
In honor of it being Women's Month I wanted to share this one with yall. I am dedicating this to the Black Queens. You're a light to the world. Keep shining and protecting the future. This 16 celebrates the intelligence shown through #HiddenFigures like Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, Dorothy Vaughan, as well as honoring the healer, Henrietta Lacks. Also, shouts out to Margot Lee Shetterly (@margotleeshetterly) for doing the important work that led to the film. As well as ally’s like Rebecca Skloot (@rebeccaskloot) for her work on #HenriettaLacks. And to the future, shoutouts to poets, writers, and lyricists in this craft @rapsody and nonamehiding.
Beat is produced by one of my favorite producers of all time, 9th Wonder (@9thwonder). It was used on the “A Start U R” track off of “The Wonder Years” (which I did cop the actual CD). Funny thing about that album is, I was bumpin’ it heavy in May of 2012 when I came out to Southern California for the first time with my wife (who was my girlfriend at the time). She had just graduated College and I had just dropped an EP. I recall being scared of flying and was listening to this album during the flight trying to calm my nerves. It helped a little bit. Thankfully, I don't really suffer with that anxiety as much lol Thanks 9th!
